2nd Round - 53rd Overall
QUINCY CARTER - QB - Georgia   --   6'2 - 225 - 4.6

Carter was projected to Dallas in the 3rd Round, they traded down to get him so it wasn't as big of a reach as it seemed. Jerry Jones reportedly loves him. He's a physical specimen but has a ways to go.

2nd Round - 56th Overall
TONY DIXON - S - Alabama   --   6'1 - 205 - 4.6

A little bit of a stretch for where they picked him especially with Hakim Akbar still on the board. However, Dixon has nice size and plays the run well making him a Darren Woodson type.

2nd Round - 93rd Overall
WILLIE BLADE - DT - Mississippi State    --   6'3 - 305 - 4.9

Another reach as Blade was more of a 5th Rounder. But he is a tough player and the Boys definitely needed a player on the interior of their defensive line.

4th Round - 122nd Overall
MARKUS STEELE - LB - Southern California   --   6'3 - 225 - 4.5

Steele is another one of those athletes still learning the game. He has great tools but had a somewhat disappointing Senior year which probably dropped him out of the first round. Still a nice value here though.

5th Round - 137th Overall
MATT LEHR - C/G - Virginia Tech   --   6'2 - 285 - 5.0

Lehr was a nice pick. He is a utility man who can play several spots on the line. He isn't a player who has lots of upside potential but he is solid and you know what you're getting.

6th Round - 171st Overall
DALEROY STEWART - DT - Southern Miss   --   6'3 - 310 - 4.8

Stewart had a nice post season which lifted his stock. He can play both inside and out but with the loss of Leon Lett it's a good bet that Stewart will start out at Tackle.

7th Round - 207th Overall
COLSTON WEATHERINGTON - Central Missouri  --  6'5 - 270 - 4.75

Weatherington was a real sleeper in the draft. He is one of the stronger Defensive Ends and he showed he could get to the QB on a small college level. He is a nice developmental prospect who could emerge.

7th Round - 240th Overall
JOHN NIX - DT - Southern Mississippi   --   6'2 - 300 - 5.3

Nix is more of a late round depth pick. He isn't a big time athlete and looks like he could be a practice squad player. Defensive Line is a big need for Dallas and they really just needed bodies.

7th Round - 242nd Overall
CHARON DORSEY - OT - Florida State   --   6'5 - 350 - 5.4

Incredibly big but also incredibly slow and lazy. If someone were to light a match under him he has the natural skills necessary to succeed. However that is a big if.

FINAL GRADE: C A lot of people are questioning this draft because of the selection of Quincy Carter. I don't think that is such a bad pick. Especially in a weaker QB class if you are going to take a chance, why not take it on an athlete like Carter? The Cowboys did reach for Dixon and Blade though. There were better players available at both of those positions. Stewart and Lehr were nice picks and Weatherington could be a nice surprise.

Michael Wiley
Emmitt may be aging but he's still the man in big D. However, 5th RD pick Michael Wiley looks like he's the Cowboy's third down specialist. Wiley's quickness and hands make him dangerous on third downs and draws comparisons to Eric Metcalf. Wiley should see his work load increases this year. CB's Dwayne Goodrich, Mario Edwards and Kareem Larrimore will all battle again for playing time. All got on the field as rookies but now at least one of them should push for a starting job. The Cowboys' only other pick last year was LB Orantes Grant. Grant didn't get a lot of time on defense but was a solid special teamer for Dallas.
