1st Round - 18th Overall
JEFF BACKUS - OT - Michigan   --   6'5 - 303 - 5.3

The Lions have made a habit out of picking Offensive linemen. Backus is a local product and will allow McDougle and Gibson to play on the right side while Backus will be the left Tackle.

2nd Round - 50th Overall
DOMINIC RAIOLA - C - Nebraska   --   6'2 - 300 - 5.1

Jeff Hartings left for Pittsburgh so this is a nice pick. Raiola had 1st Round grades and was a possibility for Detroit in the 1st Round. He will challenge Eric Beverly for the starting Center spot.

2nd Round - 61st Overall
SHAUN ROGERS - DT - Texas     --   6'4 - 331 - 5.25

If Rogers were fully healthy, he sould have been a mid-1st Rounder. He's great value here. If his foot heals, he could become the steal of the draft. It was worth a shot here.

5th Round - 148th Overall
SCOTTY ANDERSON - WR - Grambling    --   6'2 - 180 - 4.55

A nice pick here. Anderson has good height and runs excellent routes. A little skinny and he's not a blazer but he fits well and should see action for the Lions on passing downs. Could be another steal.

5th Round - 149th Overall
MIKE McMAHON - QB - Rutgers    --   6'2 - 215 - 4.7

A great High School QB who wasn't surrounded by much talent at Rutgers. A cocky player who has some character questions. Has good athletic ability but needs to improve accuracy. No immediate threat to Batch.

6th Round - 173rd Overall
JASON GLENN - LB - Texas A&M    --   6'0 - 230 - 4.75

The Lions are pretty set at LB so I'm not sure why they used this pick on Glenn. They could have used a corner more. Still, Glenn has shown some pass rush ability and the Lions may use him there.

FINAL GRADE: A- The first four picks should all see time this season. Backus and Raiola will probably start and if Rogers is healthy, he could too. Anderson was a great pick up in the 5th Round. He'll be groomed to replace Herman Moore but he should play on third downs this year. McMahon may be something down the road but I don't think he'll challenge Batch this year. Glenn wasn't really a need pick.

Barrett Green
LB Barrett Green, a second round pick from last year, was great on Special Teams for the Lions. Now in his 2nd year, the Lions hope Green can translate his speed to the defense. The Lions have Chris Claiborne and Allen Aldridge already, but Green's speed makes him perfect to play in passing situations. OT Stockar McDougle is used to passing situations, he blocks for them. The 6'6, 360 lb McDougle started a few games last year and this year hopes to solidify himself. Another rookie that made an impression was FA Larry Foster. The former LSU Tiger became the Lion's 4th WR and provided some depth behind the trio of Morton, Moore and Crowell.
